Club Náutico de Jávea

🧢 What should I wear sailing?

The right gear is the difference between having a great time and a miserable one. Here's the club's official poster, all seasons at a glance.

Detailed list per season

Summer

June · July · August

  • Swimsuit or rashguard (rashguards protect your chest from the life-jacket).
  • Short or long-sleeved rashguard (UV+ if possible).
  • Cap with chin strap so the wind doesn't take it.
  • SPF 50 water-resistant sunscreen.
  • Sunglasses with retainer cord.
  • Closed shoes you don't mind getting wet (water shoes or old trainers).
  • Towel and a dry change of clothes for after.

Spring / Autumn

April · May · September · October

  • Thin thermal or rashguard underneath.
  • Quick-dry shorts or technical trousers.
  • Lightweight foldable windbreaker / waterproof.
  • A thin sweatshirt for after, in case it cools down.
  • Cap and sunglasses (the sun hits even on cloudy days).
  • Closed shoes you don't mind getting wet.
  • Sunscreen and water to stay hydrated.

Winter

November · December · January · February · March

  • Thermal base layer + thin fleece on top.
  • Sailing waterproof trousers (or similar) over thermal leggings.
  • Breathable waterproof / windproof jacket.
  • Thin neoprene gloves (better grip, protection from cold).
  • Thin wool beanie or buff covering the ears.
  • Dry technical socks + closed shoes you don't mind getting wet.
  • ALWAYS bring a complete dry change of clothes for after.

Club tips

  • Several thin layers beat one thick one — you can take them off or put them back on as needed.
  • Never cotton: once wet it stays cold and heavy. Synthetic or technical wool is better.
  • Always bring a small dry bag or ziploc for your phone and keys.
  • A reusable water bottle: sailing dehydrates more than you'd think.
  • If you wear a watch or bracelets, take them off — they can catch on lines.
  • The life jacket is provided by the club, no need to bring one.
